Rehearsal Dinners
Your reception is shaping up to be the glittering, exceedingly chic event that you’ve always wanted, and there’s little doubt your guests will be talking about it for years to come. But all the cool kids know the rehearsal dinner is where the real party starts. Though the pre-wedding bash is a long-established tradition, remember that it really only has one prerequisite: it follows the wedding rehearsal. Instead of making it an extension of the wedding, consider the rehearsal dinner a chance to host an event that’s fresh and unexpected at New Delhi Restaurant.
Mehendi/Henna
Mehendi Ceremony is an important pre-wedding ritual in almost all Indian marriages. Both the bride and the bridegroom applies Mehendi.
While the bridegroom applies it as a token on his hands, the bride applies it on her hands and feet making intricate patterns. Mehendi signifies the strength of love in a marriage. It is believed that the darker the hndi color, the stronger the love and bond will be between the bride and the bridegroom. Having henna applied is like spending time in a luxurious spa. Ushered by singing, dancing and merry-making, Mehendi ceremony is a fun-filled grand affair.
Sangeet/Geet
Traditionally, sangeet or the music ceremony is part of the formal engagement that takes place a few days before the wedding in north Indian families, which is more of a “meet the families” affair. But today the concept is absolutely in vogue in all Indian marriages. In fact, the wedding is not complete without a sangeet. And the new-age sangeet is a fun event taking innovative directions such as “theme sangeet”. There is a typical theme storyboard where family members put in long hours of practice for the event with professional help. A theme of the modern Mughal-e-Azam is enacted by family members interspersed with old Hindi film songs.
